Dental Implants
Dental implants reliably replace missing teeth. In Sherman Oaks, Encino, and Van Nuys CA, Dr. Wasserman provides these artificial teeth, which look natural and feel secure, using the most advanced materials and techniques.
What Are Dental Implants?
There are 3 components to a dental implant. A screw-shaped titanium post sits directly in the jaw bone, simulating the root of a natural tooth. A dental crown is custom-made to match your existing teeth, and it is attached to the post via a third component, which is called an abutment.
What Type Of Surgery Is Required?
After treatment planning your case, we will refer you to an oral surgeon or periodontist (gum specialist) to have the titanium post placed. The surgical procedure is routine and relatively minor, and it can usually be completed with local anesthesia only. In the absence of sufficient bone structure to support the implant, additional procedures may be required to prepare the implant site. After a period of healing, when the implant is fused with the surrounding bone, we will complete your treatment with the fabrication of a life-like dental crown.
How Successful Are Dental Implants?
With a documented success rate of over 95%, dental implants provide long-lasting results. To protect the health of your implants and also your investment, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene and see your dentist for routine maintenance. If you clench or grind, a nightguard (or day guard) may be recommended. Specific care instructions will be given during your visit.
